Daniel Childress

My Story

So, this all seemingly started on the 6th of September 2025. I had just woken up after my first football game of the season. I had started to notice some weird tingling from my knee down on my right leg. I just rolled with it, but by that following Tuesday my leg had gone almost completely numb. So I went to see my doctor and he prescribed me Prednisone to help with inflammation to possibly help a pinched nerve. The medicine seemingly helped and by the end of the week I was almost back to normal. I have had some knee surgeries, and some prior “Nerve issues” so I saw my orthopedic doctor that Friday. He did prescribe me Lyrica for what we thought were nerve issues. I played football that night, and I felt normal. I was completely normal that Saturday, and most of Sunday. It was around 4:30 and I was watching football, and I got up to take a shower. I had started to experience a very bad headache, and within 15 minutes the entire right half of my body had the tingling sensation. I once again rolled with it for the night, but I did decide to go to the ER the next morning. The ER doc examined me, and ran blood work. All my results seemed healthy and normal. She did decide to order a MRI on my head, and low and behold they discovered a mass. I do live in a small town so I was soon transferred to Children's Mercy in Kansas City that night. The doctors did more MRI’s which my mom has sent to St. Judes. The Neurosurgeon in Kansas City did a biopsy where they were able to get 8 samples to send off to the lab. I was informed that they did believe I had cancer, and that the tumor was thought to be a High Grade Glioma. Since the biopsy my incision seems to be healing very well, and my headaches have subsided. The wound does still hurt some, but it is nothing very serious. Overall I am feeling almost completely normal besides the wound from the biopsy. We have since got everything organized to go to Memphis to a surgeon that would do the surgery and we was excepted at St Jude’s for all his care. We came to Memphis on 9/28/25 and he had surgery on 10/2/25, since surgery we have been at St Jude for lots of test and scans and other appointments, they have come up with a treatment plan of 6 weeks of radiation then we will have to see how things go from there. Daniel has suffered some numbness and weakness on his right side of his body and is having some neuropathy pain with it that we are addressing, the doctors don’t feel any of it will be permanent.
